Technology Showcase Recap

Delta ModTech hosted the 2022 Technology Showcase on October 11 and 12, unveiling a slew of new innovations and demonstrating them on-site in their Ramsey facility.

R&D has flourished over the past four years, and Delta ModTech was eager to welcome key leaders from top converting organizations around the world for a day of presentations, machine demos, and face-to-face meetings with Delta ModTech staff.

“The energy level was off the charts,” said Evan Schiebout, Chief Operating Officer of Delta ModTech. “Part of it was seeing everyone face to face after such a long absence. But a lot of it had to do with the new innovations our team has produced.”

Machine demonstration

The company had nine Delta ModTech machines on display, staffed with experts who explained new technologies that included:

  • Crusader FLEX- a new modular converting platform featuring the ultimate in flexible features
  • MODbotics -a new expanded portfolio in modular robotic dispensing and placing
  • MODTECH Connect™-a new analytics reporting system that allows for in-depth process and maintenance tracking
  • ModTech ProServ™- a new service to support new product development, changes in materials, product sizes, and tolerances. This is a full development and verification of your new process
  • Frontier’s enhanced modular coating methods which include patch and stripe coating.
  • A high level analysis of the use of sensors and vision systems for the most accurate registration.
  • Demonstrations which showed cohesion between coating, converting, packaging and robotic applications

“We’ll be rolling these out on our website in the coming months,” Schiebout explained. “But this was a great chance for our customers to see what we’ve produced since the last Showcase.”

We are happy to speak with you about how these innovations can help you and your team

The theme of this year’s Technology Showcase was “Gear Up: Manufacturing in a VUCA World.”  VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity, conditions which became much more pronounced in the marketplace since Covid-19.

We deal with VUCA every day as manufacturers,” said Wendy Stromberg, Director of People and Culture.  “We wanted to showcase how you overcome these hurdles through great leadership, innovation, flexibility, and perseverance.”

Evan, David, and Toby

Beyond the product innovations, the Technology Showcase featured several notable keynote presentations, including David Lang, Senior Vice President Engineering, Manufacturing & Innovation, LumiraDx. He outlined how Delta ModTech has played a role in LumiraDx’s success. Delta ModTech built a number of LumiraDx’s manufacturing equipment to produce point of care tests for Point Of Care settings around the world. These Point Of Care tests include tests in aid of diagnosis for Covid-19, D-Dimer (DVT), HbA1c (diabetes), CRP (inflammation marker) and INR (blood coagulation). Delta’s fast delivery and flexibility has helped LumiraDx meet customer demand. In choosing their partner, David stated,

“A run of the mill equipment developer would slow us down, not enable us to speed up,” stated Lang. “Delta ModTech came out strongest in our objective scoring assessment and matrix. It’s been a strong partnership with them”. “Delta ModTech was comfortable dealing with ambiguity and was willing to share risk with us.”

A second keynote presenter supported the VUCA theme by declaring that “Life is good!”  After a narrow escape from death and the loss of friends and fellow soldiers, State representative and Purple Heart recipient, John Kriesel, provided a keynote discussion focused on perseverance and gratitude through uncertain times.

Not only was the Tech Showcase an opportunity for Delta ModTech to share these real-world examples, it also was the first chance for many of the customers to see the company’s 230,000 square-foot facility in Ramsey, Minnesota, which was opened in 2019. Set on a 43-acre lot, the facility houses all phases of business for the converting machine manufacturer.
