Electrode Coating and Converting Demo

This video demonstrates the advanced electrode coating and converting capabilities of Delta ModTech machines. We take catalyst ink all the way through production to create a roll of converted electrodes. The first machine is the DynaCoat®, a state-of-the-art, small footprint, compact coater and dryer. Using patch-coating and a proprietary drying process, we produce electrode patches of catalyst ink on an aluminum foil substrate. Next, we laser-etch the roll of electrodes using a  Delta’s Crusader® Converter with IR EDGE® Laser Technology  and then rewind the roll.

A Range of Capabilities for Fuel Cell Manufacturing

Delta ModTech supports the coating and converting of:

  • Alkaline fuel cells 
  • Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (aka PEMFCs)

Membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs)

The MEA is a critical component in PEMFC. Delta ModTech machines are designed to produce MEAs with high precision and extreme efficiency. This includes the following layers that typically comprise a complete MEA component:

  • Catalyst coated membranes (CCMs)
  • Proton exchange membranes (PEMs)
  • Gas diffusion layers (GDLs)
